What we specialized in:

NWPD is a pediatric functional medicine clinic where we provide holistic care to children suffering from certain skin conditions such as Eczema, Acne, Seborrheic Dermatitis (Cradle Cap), Psoriasis, Rosacea, Alopecia and Keratosis Pilaris. We treat kids of all ages, from birth to 21.

What is holistic dermatology?

Natural, integrative dermatology is an approach to treating skin conditions by looking at the entire body as one interwoven system, where all systems impact one another. Skin conditions are rarely just a skin issue. There are often underlying causes and the rash or skin issue is the body's way of telling us that a deeper problem is occurring. A leaky gut and toxin exposure are common culprits. Other issues could be food sensitivities, methylation problems, hormone imbalances, and more.

What to expect during visits.

Visits currently take place virtually to patients in Colorado every 2.5 to 3 months. During the initial visit a thorough health history as well as health coaching is completed. A GI Map and Organic Acid Test is ordered and shipped directly to the patient's house. Results are reviewed at the next visit. A treatment plan is initiated during the first visit that typically includes oral herbs and supplements as well as topical treatments. Pharmaceuticals are rarely needed to achieve optimal results.

The first new patient visit typically takes about 90 minutes. Subsequent visits are shorter in length, approximately 30 to 45 minutes for a check up on skin issues, lab review and treatment plan changes as appropriate. New tests or labs may be ordered depending upon previous results and the status of the child's skin.

Visits will continue until the child and parent are satisfied with the results. Our goal it to teach the patient and parent how to manage their skin condition independently through maintaining healthy habits and decreasing toxic exposures. It is a sad, but happy time when care is discontinued and the caregiver feels confident in their knowledge and management of their child's skin condition!
